About The Grass Gauchos
The Grass Gauchos LLC was founded in 2006, primarily as a landscape maintenance company. We have since grown into a full-service landscape company.
We work with the client from the initial landscape design to the final installation. We provide a wide range of stonework services, from patios to walkways, retaining walls and stone staircases and beyond. In addition, our portfolio encompasses landscape lighting, water features and ponds and outdoor fireplaces and kitchens.
We work with select vendors who we have developed relationships with over the past eleven years to ensure that the materials used on your job are the highest quality possible. From the garden soil, we install the plants into the stone in our walls and patios, we make sure it is the best so that your home or business can be the envy of the neighborhood.
We employ a staff of up to sixteen people during peak season, with a dozen year-round employees. Our management team bios are listed below.
Josh Cohen, Owner
Josh earned his geography degree from the University of Vermont with a minor in horticulture. In addition to supervising the company operations, Josh spends close to 90% of his time working in the field with his crews. His approach as the owner is hands-on, and he has the experience to both oversee and participate in all company projects, whether it’s designing a clifftop garden and patio, building a lakeside stone staircase, or perfecting a summer lawn. He is your primary contact for all installation work, snow removal, and commercial maintenance work.
Matt Hopewell, Crew Leader
Matt has worked in the landscape industry for the past ten years, and seven of these have been spent with The Grass Gauchos. Along with a degree in horticulture from the University of Vermont, he brings a wealth of knowledge about native plants and how to care for them.
Todd Romanchek, Estimator
Todd got his start in the landscape industry early as a teenager with weekly outings to the local nursery with his parents where he developed his love of plants. From there, he went on to earn a degree in horticulture from the University of Vermont, completed an internship at the storied Winterthur Gardens in Delaware and then came to work for the Grass Gauchos in 2011. He works as our project estimator and manager, though you will still find him in the field if there is Colorado Blue Spruce (his favorite tree) to be planted.
Landon Roberts, Lead Installer
Landon joined the Grass Gauchos team in 2013. He started in the landscape industry stacking pallets of stone at his family’s quarry. Since then he has learned all facets of the business from mowing to koi pond installation. He is a key member of the installation team, helping bring designs to life by overseeing all the site work and stonework installation.
Matt Betit, Landscape Designer
Matt joined our team in 2016 after finishing with the landscape horticulture program at Vermont Technical College. He brings an impressive work ethic and attention to detail to our team. When not working he enjoys spending time on his family farm.
